What you are looking at is our 1949 Plymouth Sedan. It was shipped to us from Indiana a few months ago by my grandfather in the hopes of it being looked after and remain in the family. (I'm the biggest petrol-head of the family.) It recently underwent some work to have it's fuel-pump replaced, during which they noticed some coolant fluid in the oil. This is either a bad sign of expensive repairs in the near future, or it's nothing to worry about (as Grandpa claims that it has always done this even when new). Either way, it could use a clutch adjustment and then perhaps a timing adjustment and then it'll be nearly as reliable as any other car we own.

(The blue Smart Car is the newest addition to our garage, and my dad's daily driver.)

This, as you may or may not be able to tell, is another Plymouth. It is of unknown year and model (probably a Sedan though, if I were to venture a guess). I found it here in Eugene while on my way back from class this morning. You can see the open cabin air vent, probably due to the rather warm morning we had. It looks like it might have been fitted with turn signals, and lowered as well. Also, it's tires are not complete white-wall tires, but rather make due with a much narrower white band.

This is a nice BMW 2002 we saw while out driving our Plymouth over the weekend. It's wheels look as if they were taken from a new Mini Cooper, and that would actually make sense as the fit would be perfect and the styles would fit well. This is not the most flattering angle of the car, but you can still see that the vehicle is in quite good condition.

And last but not least, is my car, a 2004 Mazda RX-8. Quite an fun drive, it's 1.3liter rotary engine still only gets me 17mpg on the highway and eats oil like nobody's business. So perhaps one day it will be changed out for something else. But in the meantime, I wouldn't be able to substitute for anything less fun. It's my baby!

Happy (late) Fourth of July everybody!!!

On Saturday I was in Portland to see the fireworks show down at the waterfront. The entire show was nearly twenty-five minutes long, so I spent a long time just contently watching the display before it finally dawned on me that I should record some of it with the device sitting in my pocket. So I whipped out the E75 and recorded the display, in portrait mode. Came home, opened the video file in iMovie, rotated it 90 degrees, and exported it. So what you're seeing above isn't a true sample of what the E75 recorded, but it is very nearly identical.

The E75 does feature a video-light as I had mentioned in a previous post, however that was turned off. (Obviously.) The video was also left in automatic mode (versus night mode) because I felt that it would allow for a higher frame rate even if it was at a loss for color accuracy. Compared to the last time I recorded fireworks with a Nokia device (the N93, two days and two years ago exactly, the focus seems to have kept itself better controlled. I distinctly remember footage from the N93 where the camera would obscure it's focus during periods of absolute darkness and then when a firework would light up, it would appear at first to be blurry, then come sharply into focus. None of that happened with the E75.

Ever wondered what two identical E71 devices would look like sitting next to each other? Wonder no longer, because now you know. There's nothing extravagant to be said about the two devices, they simply look like two phones sitting alongside one another. Perhaps if they were in the super-sleek black color or even the champagne trim there might be more to be said, but I'm afraid as they are I can't think of anything. I do want to note, however, that the phones do look much, much, much better in-person than they do in these photos.

Actually, that brings me on to another point. Both of these photos were taken with my E71 (which you can see a reflection of in the second picture). The lighting conditions were exactly the same as the unboxing photos which were taken with the E75. Notice the quality difference? The E71 almost appears to have the accentuate glare much like my old iPhone did, and the noise levels are off the wall. The blue-purple tint is also detectable.

As I was sitting in the reading chair next to the window, waiting for the DHL delivery courier to arrive with my "gift" from Nokia, I started to fool around the the E75's camera. I was immediately impressed with the newly activated camera features as I mentioned in my previous post, but wanted to see if the camera quality had also been upped as well. Indoors, in a poorly lit environment, is never a fair environment to judge a camera's quality by, so I took a step outside and looked around for an interesting subject. Literally two feet from my door was this bottle-cap, sitting innocently on the ground.

I thought to myself, "Hmm... why not that? It's well illuminated, will give the macro a run for it's money, and see if the software will know exactly what I'm trying to focus in on. Plus, I really love macro shots...*click*"

The end result is here for your enjoyment. Noise levels are low, and the detail is actually amazingly good. Every scratch and ding on the cap is visible for inspection, as is the almost grotesque texture of the cement it rested on. Color balance seems suite good as well, showing none of the bluish-purple hue that an E71 occasionally lays on top of an otherwise perfect image. More test photos (and videos) to come soon!
